Creatinine is the resulting by-product from the breakdown of muscle creatine phosphate during muscle contractions. Creatinine is then filtered out from the blood by the kidneys.
For maximal accuracy, combine this test with:
- Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) test.
- Blood pressure checkup on both arms.
Indicator(s):
If blood serum creatinine is high, it is not being efficiently filtered out by the kidneys. The degree of kidney deterioration will be proportional to the serum creatinine levels. The greater the creatinine (beyond .6), the worse the deterioration of kidney tissues.
